Analemmatic dials |
|||
| The analemmatic sundial is also called the variable centre dial. Analemmatic sundials are not common and make use of a movable gnomon. The gnomon is vertical and its position is dependent on the date - therefore the variable centre. The hours are indicated by points that fall on the circumference of an ellipse. If made to a large scale this type of dial can be very interactive and entertaining, since the visitor (instead of a pole) becomes the gnomon. Detailed instructions for the construction of an annalemmatic sundial for Johannesburg / Pretoria, Gauteng Province, South Africa can be found on the HartRAO web site. Analemmatic dials are altitude dials. |
